Our Conditions - Postural problems and work related pain

We are all prone to problems related to how we stand and sit and these problems can sometimes be made worse at work due to the specific activities we carry out at work or because we may be particularly stressed. Occupational health is a key area of expertise at Back in Motion and we know how important it is to keep fit and healthy while we work.

What are postural problems?

The way we stand and sit is hugely important in preventing pain and maintaining health in our joints and muscles. We can place enormous strain on our bodies through bad postural habits and most commonly, back and neck pain are the results. A trained physiotherapist will carry out a thorough review of your normal posture to fully understand the impact on your spine, hips, neck and shoulders.

What are work-related problems?

Our jobs and the activities we perform at work can have an affect on our health. Most common of all work related problems is back pain and it is estimated that 15 million work days were lost due to back pain in 2013. Other problems can be strained muscles or ligaments, wear and tear, stress and RSI - Repetitive Strain Injury. The areas of the body most affected at work are usually found in the upper body including arms, shoulders, elbows, hands and wrists. Work related problems most usually occur in those who spend all day at a desk or those that carry out repetitive manual work. Other common causes of health problems at work occur through incorrect lifting and injury.
